Karishma Manandhar was born on 9 June 1974 in Jharuarashi, Lalitpur. She did her schooling from Subhatara School. She made her acting debut at the age of 14 from the movie Santaan (2042 B.S) opposite to Bhuwan K.C. KC in Jharuarashi of Lalitpur on 9th June 1974, the real name of Karishma
is Bunu. She had just turned fourteen years when she did her first movie
‘Santaan’ opposite to Bhuwan KC in 1988. It was then that she changed her name
from Bunu to Karishma and soon she became popular as Karishma. After playing
her role in Mayalu, Karishma realized that she must get training if she is to
make her career as an actress. So, she visited Mumbai and took training under
well-known actress Madhumati to enhance her acting skills where she got an opportunity
to play in the movie Choron Ki Barat which was directed by acclaimed director
Sunil Agnihotri. She was also signed in to play in an Indian movie – Dangaa
Fasaad. Later, she decided to establish her name in Nepali film Industry and
returned back to Kathmandu. She was approached by cinematographer Gauri Shankar
Dhuju for brand advertisement. Later, Dhuju introduced Karishma to Binod
Manandhar. Karishma signed in to play as a lead actress in the movie Kasturi
that was being directed by Binod Manadhar and it was then that the two of them
met. Karishma met Binod at the sets of movie Kasturi and then the two of them
began to see each other. When both of them were sure that they were the right
partner for each other, Karishma Married Binod Manandhar. Karishma left Nepal
and went on to live in Baltimore, USA for few years but she missed Kollywood
and returned to Nepal where she continued to play in movie.
Childhood and Education
Karishma spent her childhood in
Lalitpur. She had not a very good experience as a child. She received her
formal education from Shuvatara School from where she completed her SLC Level
education. She did not continue her education further as she got busy playing
movies. She was a fast learner. Although she had no formal training in acting
or dancing, she soon dominated the Nepali cinema industry with her pretty face.
Family and Home
Karishma Manandhar married
Binod Manandhar, the successful Producer. She is living with her husband and
her only daughter Kavita Manandhar. Her mother Komal KC has turned 66 years (in
2016) and she is living in Godavari, near to Karishma’s house and she
participates in celebrations that are organized in Karishma’s house. Karishma
has no brother.
Karishma
as a producer
12 years before, Karishma had
produced a movie – Babu Saheb. It was a bitter experience for Karishma as she
suffered huge loss from the movie. After 12 years, Karishma has ventured into
film production again. Fagu, the production of Karishma’s banner was released
on 19th February 2016. Unfortunately, the
movie had to compete with Ko Afno and Soldier and the movie could not do well.
Fagu is the festival of colours. This is a female oriented movie that depicts
life of woman in Terai. Shilpa Pokhrel is the lead actress of the movie while
it is directed by Samjhana Upreti Rauniyar.
Daughter Kabita
Karishma Manandhar daughter is
named Kabita who has completed her Bachelor’s level education from Baltimore
Maryland, USA. According to the recent update, Karishma is planning to direct a
movie in which she wants to star cast her daughter as a lead actress.
Karishma’s
secret to fitness
In a Karishma Manandhar
interview, she has said that she exercises a lot to stay fit. Every morning,
she takes green tea and then skips 1000 times on a skipping rope. Later, she
lifts 2.5 kg dumbbells before heading towards Fitness Club to do Yoga.
Shawashan, Anulombilom, Namaste Yog, and Surya Namaste are her favourite Yoga
posture. Thus, she spends almost two hours on exercise every morning. According
to her, you should know what and when to eat to remain fit. She usually takes
her breakfast at 9am and drinks plenty of water. But she says that she is not
picky about things she should eat. Anything that provides her with essential
nutrients is good for her.
